TCK Sports Group, one of the largest importers in the Benelux sports and outdoor sector, recently moved from Heerlen to Kerkrade, where the distribution centre is three times larger. This means that many more models, including mountain boots, can be delivered directly from stock. Orders placed before 4 p.m. are shipped the same day. The new distribution centre is 9,000 square metres in size, not counting the 1,750 square metres of office space.
Because of the growth in orders, they asked us to help them optimise their picking process, which involves minimising walking distances. We developed a concept to process low and high volumes within the shortest possible time.
The desired outcome
The system consists of two levels of which the upper level is executive. The lower level brings the empty bins, after export, back to the starting point.
Fire safety is also important for the distribution centre. Therefore, we installed a fire door between each hall. These make a separation in case of fire between all halls and also serve as an emergency door.
The distribution centre is divided into a total of five halls, of which Halls 1, 2 and 3 are equipped with two picking stations and Hall 4 with six picking stations. In hall 5, all goods come together and are finally sorted for delivery, destined for e-commerce.
